Open Roads

Van life is about freedom. It’s about forging your own path, calling your own shots and making fun a non-negotiable. (We can definitely get behind that.) And for serious van-lifers like Kristen Bor, there’s a drive to help others achieve this lifestyle.

OBJECTIVE

OBJECTIVE

That’s why Bor turned to Moses to help her create her first-ever van life festival; a full-blown weekend experience for the four-wheeled community, launching summer 2019 in McCall, Idaho. Tasked with launching a distinct brand, brought to life on a website that would drive ticket sales, Moses began by hitting the research hard.

IDEA

IDEA

Because this was an inaugural event, we would need to focus on values and emotion-triggering experiences to create an immediate sense that this festival was familiar yet new; a “they get me” vibe paired with a distinct identity. While other van life festivals were adventure-based, this one would be lifestyle-focused. Not only that, Bor’s festival would be accessible to all types of van-lifers – novice and experts alike – and convey the principles of Leave No Trace.

With all this in mind, Moses created a brand name that spoke to the boundless opportunities and freedom that van life could offer: Open Roads Fest. We then created a logo that was both modern and natural. It showcased a clean-lined, geometric landscape of the great outdoors with a color gradient that brought it to life while also bringing to mind those unforgettable moments that make the trip worth it.

Armed with a name and a logo that the entire movement could get behind, Moses set to work designing an easy-to-navigate site that did more than offer comprehensive information about the festival, it established an identity for it. Beautifully designed and responsive, the site looked as good on a widescreen desktop as it did on a smartphone. After all, this was the van life crowd and being on the road meant you were most likely to be on your phone.

We also utilized micro-interaction to enhance the user's experience with the design and encourage increased engagement with the site. And because a seamless purchasing experience is key when designing event-based sites like this one, Moses also made sure Open Roads Fest had a high-performance ticketing and scheduling integration.

Planning a first time, cross-country festival can often be a bumpy road. But with the Moses team by her side, Bor's experience was smooth sailing.
